Thanks for all the help. If only we listened!!!!! Ah well :. Spend a little more money, with a netbook that can at least run XP. Or hang on a bit for one that has W7 with it. But do ask us.
We don't mind :. I am having Win CE5 problems as well. See my very recent post. Who helped you fix wireless problem. Also, heard I can install Android on it. In any event, I am looking for help getting the wireless to work on the CE 5 tablet. Hi Well as I said, I am with BT and whilst they were helpful in telling me that I had the correct information fed into the wireless tab, and it still wouldn't function they said they were not trained on windows CE, so to go back to shop.
As LH suggested , I am spending a little more later and will go for a bigger laptop. However I did find this site, they were a bit slow in responding but neverethe less, appear to want to help, so give them a try.
Hope its a help. Kate P. S Forgot to say scroll down to Technical and then scroll down to CE selections. The Best Tech Newsletter Anywhere. Join , subscribers and get a daily digest of news, geek trivia, and our feature articles.
Articles l l. If there is insufficient memory, either something must be removed from memory to make room for new information, or you will be prevented from performing a task or starting a program.
Windows CE 2. Additionally, attempting to increase the storage RAM beyond this limit has been know to cause instability and in a minority of cases data loss on some devices Setting either the Program Memory or Storage Memory too low can lead to device instability and loss of functionality.
Setting either memory allocation critically low or to a value which leaves 0 available space will cause permanent data loss. Your device will crash and you will be forced to hard reset in order to regain functionality If possible the memory allocation should be set at a value of at least double the amount of the nominal in-use Program Memory. Tap Start Select Settings and finally Control Panel Run the System Applet Open the Memory Tab if it has not automatically been displayed The slider on this screen displays an overview of the current status of your devices memory.
Drag the slider to the right to increase the amount of Storage Memory and reduce the amount of Program Memory. Drag the slider to the left to increase the amount of Program Memory and reduce the amount of Storage Memory. The numeric information will be updated as you adjust the sliders position. That's not good :o! I can't really see myself being happy using 'wordpad' for what work I need to do on it for as long as I own it! Perhaps I will send it back. Was hoping I could use portable apps because there's so little storage space on notebooks well this one anyway! Well, every single notebook I've seen in my price range has said it runs either win CE 5. I bought mine on Ebay, they're everywhere! There's cheap Hong Kong generic notebooks all running CE on there.
Why would they put it on a 'laptop' if its incompatible with good things! I don't know! Well, you can still hold it on your lap; I'd guess that would make an Etch-a-Sketch a 'laptop'. I figure it is an example of 'buyer beware'. You may be better off paying slightly more for a branded 'real Win' machine like an Asus, Acer, or the like to get software compatibility.
Even there, be careful about whether it says WinXP, Win7 or some version of Linux I am a Asus Linux user and have chosen to live with the compatibility issues for the past two years. My other home machines are also Linux; my wife is a Mac user. Good luck!
All these laptops saying they have 'windows' when they really mean WinCE and then people like me who know nothing about anything buy them thinking they can install a different OS later on or use windows programs on it just like any other 'windows' OS etc etc are completely stuck!
Its awful, none of the sellers on sites like Ebay highlight the limitations of WinCE! It's a stupid thing to put on there, and I shall be very careful in finding another notebook! You'll find that genuine Windows carries a significant cost to the manufacturer, so the extra cost is passed down the line until it gets into the hands of the consumer. On the flip side of that coin, machines that don't run genuine Windows end up costing less. Buyers looking for low price machines will as you've found see this first hand.
If you look around you will be able to find programs that you can use. Just don't think laptop or speed. More then likely the netbook you are getting or have gotten runs an arm processor. Don't expect programs that you would get for standard windows. It's simular to using a PDA. Compare what you paid with what you get. See if they will work with you. Need more help?
