The amount of cash assistance a family can receive depends on the number of people who are eligible and the amount of income they receive. After you apply, your Eligibility Technician ET will go over all of the eligibility requirements with you during the interview. This program helps recipients acquire the skills and training needed to obtain employment.
With some exceptions, able-bodied adults who receive CalWORKs must participate in employment activities. Eligible families are provided payments for child care. From working CalWORKs recipients to parents of children receiving protective services, the Child Care program offers the customer prompt and accurate access to help with child care expenses. All child care funds are paid on behalf of the customer directly to the provider of their choice.
The State of California sets the maximum rate paid for child care. The amount is based on the age of the child, the type of care used, whether the provider is licensed or un-licensed, and the amount of time the child care is needed. In some cases, the child care provider may charge more than the maximum amount DPSS can pay. The most qualified applicants will be contacted and scheduled for an interview, and if necessary, for testing. Employee reference checks are done upon an offer of temporary employment.
New Employee Orientation is conducted regularly. Most TAP employees are hired as "Temporary Assistants" and fill assignments for many of the job classifications listed in our Job Descriptions. Depending on the needs of the particular department and assignment, the length of the assignment can vary but typically lasts for six months. Proof of custody, social security numbers for all members and identifications for adults are required for entry.
The Path of Life Community Emergency, operated by Path of Life Ministries in partnership with the City, provides year round shelter connected with case management services for homeless men and women. This shelter is a day program that serves adults by providing temporary housing along with assistance in obtaining important documents, job readiness, computer workshops, counseling, meals, hygiene supplies and bible studies.
This program holds beds for qualified single men and women with separate dormitories for each gender. These beds are provided on a night-by-night basis under the federal cold weather shelter initiative in cooperation with the County of Riverside. The Place is operated by Jefferson Transitional Programs in partnership with the County of Riverside Department of Mental Health and is a safehaven drop-in and permanent housing program that seeks to engage the most visible, yet hardest to reach, chronically homeless person who carries a primary diagnosis of a serious mental health disorder.
The U. Department of Housing and Urban Development HUD has adopted the Housing First model, which emphasizes moving homeless individuals into housing as quickly as possible and providing the appropriate level of services to support housing stabilization and retention.
