Vista start menu power button options




















Click on the Power Option settings to select a power plan and change plan settings. As displayed on the Power Options configuration screens, there are three preferred plans Balanced, Power saver and High performance.

Scroll down to "Power buttons and lid". There exists three buttons to be configured: power button, sleep button and start menu power button. You can alter the "Start menu power button" setting from "Sleep" to "Shut down" or to "Hibernate".

Click OK to apply the altered changes. Note Occasionally, Windows sets the Power button to shut down, such as when there are updates to install that require the computer to restart. A mobile PC that's configured with the Classic Start menu reverts to the behavior seen in earlier versions of Windows. Desktop computers use a new power-saving mode called Fast S4.

The net result is that when users want to turn off their computers, they're much more likely to get what they ask for. In Power Options in Control Panel, users can choose the power management behavior that they want.
